“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes” –Carl Jung. The quote expresses the benefit of looking within and gaining personal enlightenment. A person who looks outside dreams, and by doing that alone, does not progress; but when one looks within, they can open themselves up to new possibilities. These typographic pieces were designed as a visual expression of such. Based off the juxtaposing words, outside and inside, the two pieces physically contrast each other—the layers in Outside jut out in an alternating fashion, while the layers of Inside recede into the piece itself. However, the layered wave design within each letter connect the two pieces. They can stand alone, but together they complete each other, just as dreaming and looking within do.
